On Friday, March 19th, 2021 the eruption of the Fagradalsfjall volcano started for the first time after of hundreds years of silence. This eruption lasted until September of 2021 and atracted hundreds of thousands of visitors. Than it stopped. But Iceland began to be a specatacle of nature again when the eruption started on 3rd August 2022 and lasted until 21st September 2022. This last eruption started in Meradalir Iceland was much bigger and scientist predictred it could last for decades. So we will see if it starts again or not. The view of the eruption was unique and spectacular so it atracted thousands of tourist. Now we offer the helicopter flights to see the effects of both eruptions which can be truly seen only from above. This volcano is located on the Reykjanes Peninsula, where there are up to six volcanic systems, lined up side by side. The eruption of the volcano did not pose a threat to populated areas or infrastructure in Iceland, hence it is possible to fly over safely and admire the power of lava flowing over the land. The Reykjanes Peninsula is an area famous for beinng full of geothermal wonders. In fact, the peninsula is a UNESCO Global Geopark and is part of the global network of geoparks. The peninsula is made up of mountains of volcanic tuff that were formed in subglacial eruptions and several series of craters and volcanic systems.

What should you bring? No matter what time of year you decide to travel to Iceland, it is always important to bring a proper waterproof jacket, warm clothes (waterproof pants like Gore-tex), good waterproof shoes, gloves, light hat, sunglasses, camera, food for the hike and water. If you want to go visit the eruption site on your own always check the newest information as new cracks can open and the polluting gases can increase or change in a short time. Scientists and the Department of Civil Protection and Emergencies are always monitoring the area closely and report back in case there is any update.
Important note: It is important that you book in advance and as soon as possible since there is a waiting list due to the large number of requests. There are scheduled departures every day but they are subject to weather conditions and airspace In addition, there could be other last minute restrictions, such as the closure of airspace due to the eruption of gases, which can affect the departure of the flight.
