It it safe to fly over a volcano with a helicopter? Yes, we think so. So far we have made hunderds of flights over the eruption area, and no problems have occured. Helicopters are not so sensitive to encounters to clouds of volcanic ash like the planes are, where there it is a serious concern. Helicopters do not have jet engines and other aircraft components like planes, which are so vulnerable to damage by volcanic ash. We have sold many flights for helicopter sightseeing tours over the eruption in 2021, 2022 and also 2023 on Iceland with no problematic issues regarding security. Because security comes first! So sometimes the flights are cancelled due to climatological or volcanic conditions. In this case our clients are entitled to 100% refund of course, or they can reschedule their flight.
