Lake Myvatn Iceland from top

Join an excursion to Lake Mývatn from the port of Akureyri.

This bus tour offers travelers the chance to explore the natural wonders of northern Iceland, starting with a drive east from Akureyri, crossing Eyjafjörður fjord, and enjoying views of the town, ocean, and surrounding mountains.

The first stop is the picturesque Goðafoss Waterfall, which holds historical significance related to the introduction of Christianity in Iceland. The journey continues through areas showcasing extreme contrasts, including bird life, flora, lava fields, and geothermal activity.

At Lake Mývatn, the tour visits the Skútustaðagígar pseudocraters, Dimmuborgir Lava Fields, and the Grjótagjá Rift, where the separation between the Eurasian and American tectonic plates is visible. The final stop is at Námafjall and the Hverir geothermal area, featuring steaming fumaroles, boiling mud pools, and sulfur pits.

A light lunch and entry to the Mývatn Nature and Heritage Museum are included. The tour concludes with a return to Akureyri port, ensuring timely arrival for the cruise departure. Expert guides provide insights into the region's geological history and wildlife throughout the tour.

The final stop at Lake Mývatn is the Hverir geothermal area, with boiling mud pools, steaming fumaroles, and sulfur pits.
