Take part in the ultimate experience and explore an Icelandic glacier from a whole new perspective (from above!). Join in this impressive glacier helicopter tour in Iceland and within minutes you will reach the Þórisjökull glacier, which is part of the second largest glacier in Iceland, the impressive Langjökull, located in the west of the island. The helicopter flight departs from Reykjavík's domestic airport and lands on the glacier. If visibility allows, from the top of the glacier you can see the wild highlands of the Iceland and its distinctive landscapes. The total duration of the glacier helicopter tour is 80-100 minutes. On the way back you will fly over the Skjaldbreiður volcano and the incredible Thingvellir National Park, a beautiful valley which is part of the Golden Circle of Iceland and where the continental drift of the Eurasian and the North American tectonic plates is located.

Helicopter tour to glacier Langjökull

Level of difficulty: Easy (1 / 5)
Reservation: It is recommended to book your seat in advance online to ensure availability.
Activity duration: About 1,5 hours.
Price includes: Helicopter flight of 50-70 minutes with an extra 15-minute landing on the glacier, English-speaking pilot/guide (in one), local VAT.
Scheduled departures: There are several scheduled departures in the morning and in the afternoon from Reykjavík's domestic airport (Reykjavíkurflugvöllur, Þorragata 10, 101 Reykjavík, Iceland). The morning departure times vary between 08:00 a 13:00 and the afternoon times between 13:00 a 20:00. Please keep in mind that during the winter months, the operations start earlier due to the fact that there is less light during this time of year which will affect visibility during the flight.

After taking off from Reykjavík domestic airport and enjoying a scenic flight, you will land on the Þórisjökull glacier and have the fascinating opportunity to discover the fascinating world of ice. The glacier is covered in snow all year round, so even on the hottest days you can feel the cool polar air on your own face. With a bit of luck, you will be able to see the interior of the island, with its striking landscapes, from the top. Afterwards, we will approach the ancient Skjaldbreiður volcano and fly over its craters. On the way back we will pass over the famous Thingvellir National Park, where the first Icelandic parliament Althing was founded in 930. This park is also important from a geological point of view because it is precisely there where the two tectonic plates separate (the Eurasian and the North American), a fact that can be seen very well from the helicopter. At that precise moment you will truly feel between two continents. You can also enjoy beautiful views of the largest lake in Iceland, which is part of the same park. At the end, we will fly over the Esja mountain and the city of Reykjavik to land again at the domestic airport of Reykjavík.

More information: If the weather conditions do not permit for a helicopter flight, the provider will try to change the time and/or day of the flight. If this is not possible, the total payment will be returned. You can also see this other helicopter ride tour above Reykjavik, showing the gorgeous landscapes and coastal views

What should I bring? No matter what time of year you decide to travel to Iceland, it is always important to bring a proper waterproof jacket, warm clothes (waterproof pants like Gore-tex), good waterproof shoes, gloves, light hat, sunglasses and camera.
