MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THE SOUTH COAST AND ATVE RIDE TO THE PLANE WRECK IN ICELAND

In 1973 the United States Army DC3 plane crashed on Sólheimasandur black beach. Luckily everyone on the plane survived. The wreckage of the plane was left on the beach and now it looks more like a science-fiction movie set. Getting to the place is complicated as private vehicles are forbidden and you have to take a 1 hour walk one way and 1 hour back. With this tour you will arrive by ATV to the plane and you will be able to enjoy an incredible landscape living a unique adventure.

The South Coast and ATV ride to the wreck plane DC3 departs from Reykjavík and goes thorugh fhe beautiful landscapes of southern Iceland for about 2 hours. You will see the famous volcanic lands, with mountains and glaciers to one side and views of the Atlantic Ocean to the other. After the bus tour, we will reach the Sólheimajökull glacier tongue, which is part of the famous Mýrdalsjökull glacier, the fourth largest glacier in Iceland. There, we will receive all the instructions and the necessary equipment to get on the quad and we will head to the Solheimasandur beach following the English-speaking guide, at the head of the group. On the way to this incredible landscape formed from the nearby Katla volcano, you will have to cross small rivers and you will be able to enjoy unique views. On one side you will have the vast Atlantic Ocean with its wild waves and on the other the Mýrdalsjökull glacier, as well as the Dyrhólaey peninsula, in the extreme south of Iceland. In this way we will arrive by quad bike to the place of the famous plane crash in Sólheimasandur, whose remains have been resting on the sand since 1973.

On the way back, the guide will take you along the Jökulsá River, to the foot of the mountain. Once back on the bus and on the way to Reykjavik, we will stop at the impressive Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss waterfalls, the best known places on the south coast. Skógafoss has a 60-meter drop and spectacular views, while at Seljalandsfoss you can pass behind its curtain of water.
