Information about the Perlan Museum and the Auroras Show 

The Perlan Museum's first exhibition of "Glaciers and Ice", opened in the summer of 2017. It is unique in the world in that it is built into one of the six hot water tanks that make up Perlan. The construction is quite impressive as the 6 tanks hold a total of 424 million liters of geothermal hot water (4 million liters per tank). These gigantic structures are suppored by a massive steel frame which also doubles as an immense radiator. Depending on the season the appropriate water runs through and heats or cools the system, cold in the summer and hot in the winter. 

There are four parts to the main exhibition which is named: Forces of Nature Exhibition. The four sections include volcanoes, plate tectonics, earthquakes and geothermal power. These are the four elements which make Iceland so unique to any other country or place on this planet. Each area does into great detail to show how these four forces have acted upon the tiny island and granted it the increible beauty, landscape, views, flora and fauna that now reside there. 

With this entrance to the Perlan museum, you can also access the spectacular planetarium of northern lights, the first in 8K. Science and art combined to show you a beautiful story about the northern lights, a journey through time and the incredible landscapes of Iceland that will allow you to understand the science behind this great mystery and live a truly fascinating experience.

And at the very top of the museum you will find the large observation deck with an incredible 360 ​​° view of all of Reykjavík and the surrounding area. On a clear day, of which there are many in Iceland, you can see up to 100km away. There is a well diagrammed image indicating all of the many famous sites on the horizon, including the Keilir volcano on the Reykjanes peninsula to the famous Snæfellsjökull glacier. You'll also be able to make out Esja, the Reykjavík mountain, in all its splendor.

Each ticket also includes a free shuttle bus transfer between the Harpa concert hall (bus stop # 5), the Hotel Natura and the Perlan museum.

INFORMATION ABOUT THE VISIT TO THE PERLAN MUSEUM AND THE WONDERS OF ICELAND 

The first exhibition of the Perlan Museum, "Glaciers and Ice", opened in the summer of 2017 and is integrated into one of the six hot water tanks that make up Perlan. It started with an ice cave that has been built inside the building, the first of its kind in the world and where you can experience the same sounds, smells and all the cold as in an ice cave inside a glacier, as well as learning about its ash layers and deep, dark cracks.

In addition to this incredible exhibition, the section "Wonders of Iceland" includes an exhibition on the forces of nature, where you can see, hear and feel the power of volcanoes and earthquakes, discover the tectonic plates and get to know in depth the geothermal energy and its importance in Iceland. In addition, you will be able to see the sculpture of the cliff of Látrabjarg and through the use of augmented reality, discover the underwater treasures of Iceland through a unique cinema screening.

• 1^st Stop: Seljalandsfoss Waterfall which is especially rare and exciting due to the cave that you can find behind the water curtain. Step behind for a magnificent view.
• 2^nd Stop: Skógafoss Waterfall where you can climb up a steep set of stairs to admire the view of the waterfall from above. It’s absolutely stunning.
• 3^rd Stop: Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach, thanks to the volcanic activity on the island, lava rocks and volcanic minerals combine for this other-worldly location. Complete with basalt columns on the beach and ragged sea stacks rising out of the ocean, this location is hauntingly beautiful.

 DAY 2: SKAFTAFELL NATIONAL PARK: JÖKULSÁRLÓN GLACIER LAGOON, DIAMOND BEACH

• 1^st Stop: Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon where a frozen fairy tale comes to life. Take a meander around the lagoon to see the little icebergs roll by, or opt in for an optional boat tour (book this extra excursion ahead of time as seats fill up fast**). Keep your eyes peeled for seals.
• 2^nd Stop: Diamond Beach, which is another black sand beach. This one however is usually bedazzled with pieces of icebergs that wash ashore, and the combination is what gives it its name.
• Heading back to Reykjavík, keep your eyes open for the Northern Lights and if visible, we’ll make a stop to enjoy this magnificent sight.

 DAY 3: GOLDEN CIRCLE: GEYSIR, GULLFOSS WATERFALL, SECRET LAGOON

• Head into the Golden Circle - one of the top tours in Iceland, and you won’t question why after seeing it.
• 1^st Stop: Þingvellir National Park (Thingvellir National Park) and see where the great continental divide between the European and North American continental plates. This is also the location of the oldest and longest continually running parliaments in the world.
• 2^nd Stop: Geysir, the namesake for all other geysirs, and Strokkur, offer spectacular shows, the later erupts with boiling water at regular intervals of 5 - 10 minutes.
• 3^rd Stop: Gullfoss (Golden) Waterfall, a glacier fed falls, which pours down over two levels before forming a river in the canyon below. There are viewing points from both above and below the waterfall, each one giving a unique and equally breathtaking view.

Weather in Iceland can be very cold, so please always pack and bring extra clothing, especially waterproof gear and comfortable hiking shoes.
Depending on the time of year, there are two ice cave possibilities. However, in very poor weather, the roads may be in such conditions that we cannot visit either cave. In this case, we will hike upon the glacier instead.
