VOLCANO ERUPTION IN ICELAND TOUR

Have you ever walked on freshly cooled lava? Now is your chance to experience the dramatic landscapes shaped by Iceland’s most recent volcanic activity. While the Meradalir area on the Reykjanes Peninsula is currently not erupting at ground level, a new eruption began nearby on July 15th, 2025, marking the 12th eruption in this geologically active region since 2021.

Join us on this guided hiking tour to explore solidified lava fields, steam vents, and volcanic craters — remnants of Earth’s raw power visible after several recent eruptions in 2021, 2022, and now 2025. The landscape remains otherworldly and alive with geothermal activity, offering an unforgettable glimpse into the forces that shape our planet.

This afternoon/evening hike lasts approximately 6–7 hours (including transfers) and is led by an experienced English-speaking guide. As the light changes throughout the day, the stark contrast between black lava and the sky creates a surreal and magical atmosphere.

MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THE VOLCANO TOUR IN ICELAND

After weeks of intense seismic activity, a new volcanic eruption began on August 3rd, 2022, in the Meradalir valley, near the Fagradalsfjall volcano, located on the Reykjanes Peninsula. This region is home to up to six active volcanic systems lined up side by side — making it one of the most geologically fascinating areas in Iceland.

The eruption occurred in a remote and geologically secure valley, surrounded by natural ridges that helped contain the lava and prevent damage to infrastructure or nearby towns. During the active phase, visitors could witness streams of lava, glowing craters, and steam vents forming a truly dramatic landscape.

While the eruption is no longer active in 2025 in that area, the volcanic site remains open and accessible to the public. You can still observe the solidified lava fields, newly formed craters, and steam rising from the ground — a hauntingly beautiful reminder of Iceland’s raw volcanic power.

The Reykjanes Peninsula is also a UNESCO Global Geopark, known for its geothermal features, subglacial volcanic formations, and stunning geological diversity. It’s an ideal destination for anyone interested in Earth’s natural forces.

Important Note: The area is currently considered safe to visit, and is closely monitored by Icelandic authorities and geoscientists. Access may be restricted without notice if new activity arises or weather conditions change. The safety of all visitors is our top priority, and this tour is always subject to official recommendations from the Department of Civil Protection and Emergency Management.

Responsibility Disclaimer:
Please note that natural phenomena such as volcanic eruptions or visible lava flows cannot be guaranteed, as they depend entirely on nature and are outside the control of ISLANDICA. The absence of visible lava does not constitute grounds for refunds or claims, as this is clearly stated in the tour conditions and is part of the inherent unpredictability of volcanic landscapes.

By booking this experience, all participants acknowledge and accept these terms.
