Itinerary
Day 1 – Arrival in Reykjavík
Arrive in the Icelandic capital, check into your accommodation, and enjoy free time to explore the city. In the evening, join a Northern Lights boat tour departing from Reykjavík harbor.
Day 2 – Golden Circle & South Coast
Morning pick-up and departure to the famous Golden Circle: Þingvellir National Park, Geysir geothermal area, and Gullfoss waterfall. Continue to the South Coast to see Seljalandsfoss (walk behind the falls), Skógafoss (watch for rainbows), and the black sand beach of Reynisfjara with its basalt columns and sea stacks. Overnight near Vík.
Day 3 – Glacier Hike & Jökulsárlón
Travel east to Skaftafell in Vatnajökull National Park for a 3-hour glacier hike led by a certified guide. Continue to the stunning Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon and nearby Diamond Beach, where icebergs wash ashore. Overnight in Höfn.
Day 4 – The East Fjords & Hengifoss
Drive along the spectacular East Fjords to Egilsstaðir. On the way, enjoy a hike to Hengifoss and Litlanesfoss waterfalls, known for striking basalt columns and colorful volcanic strata. Overnight in the East.
Day 5 – Dettifoss & Lake Mývatn
Visit Dettifoss, Europe’s most powerful waterfall. Explore the geothermal area of Námaskarð with its fumaroles and mud pools. Optional entrance to the Mývatn Nature Baths for a relaxing soak. See the Hverfjall crater and lava formations of Dimmuborgir before continuing to Goðafoss waterfall. Overnight near Akureyri.
Day 6 – Akureyri & Whale Watching
Explore Akureyri, the “Capital of the North.” Drive to Dalvík for a 3-hour whale watching tour in Eyjafjörður fjord, with chances to spot humpback whales, dolphins, and even blue whales. Continue across the Tröllaskagi Peninsula, visiting fishing villages like Siglufjörður. Overnight in West Iceland.
Day 7 – West Iceland & Return to Reykjavík
Discover the highlights of Borgarfjörður: Deildartunguhver hot spring, Hraunfossar and Barnafoss waterfalls, and the historic site of Reykholt, home of Snorri Sturluson. Drive through scenic Hvalfjörður fjord on the way back to Reykjavík. Evening Northern Lights minibus tour.
Day 8 – Departure Day
Check out of your hotel. Free time in Reykjavík before departure.
